Participant Funding for the Regulatory Oversight Report for Uranium Mines, Mills, Historic and Decommissioned Sites in Canada: 2020

This participant funding opportunity is open from July 12 to August 13, 2021.

Participant funding notice

The CNSC is offering participant funding to assist Indigenous peoples, members of the public and stakeholders in reviewing CNSC staff’s Regulatory Oversight Report for Uranium Mines, Mills, Historic and Decommissioned Sites in Canada: 2020 and in submitting comments in writing to the Commission. In addition, in the spirit of reconciliation and in recognition of the Indigenous oral tradition of sharing knowledge, the CNSC is offering Indigenous intervenors the opportunity to make oral presentations. Oral presentations will be made remotely due to potential travel restrictions or limitations relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.

From December 15 to 16, 2021, the CNSC will hold a public meeting where CNSC staff will present the regulatory oversight report to the Commission. The report will provide an overview of CNSC regulatory efforts in 2020 with respect to operating uranium mines and mills in Canada. It will also provide an update on the status of historic and decommissioned sites in Canada.

Up to $75,000 in participant funding will be disbursed among all eligible applicants for the provision of new, distinctive and valuable information through informed and topic-specific interventions to the Commission. PFP applications must clearly demonstrate how the proposed submission will provide the Commission with information directly relating to the report and regulatory performance of operating uranium mines and mills during 2020, and/or the status of historic and decommissioned sites in Canada. Funding for travel to the Commission meeting is not within the scope of this funding opportunity.
