The participant funding offering for the Regulatory Oversight Report for Canadian Nuclear Power Generating Sites: 2017 is open from April 30, 2018 to June 29, 2018.

Participant funding notice

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) is offering participant funding to assist Indigenous persons, members of the public and stakeholders in reviewing CNSC staff's Regulatory Oversight Report for Canadian Nuclear Power Generating Sites: 2017 and submitting comments, in writing, to the Commission.

The CNSC will hold a public meeting on October 3–4, 2018 in Ottawa, Ontario, during which CNSC staff will present the report to the Commission. The report will provide CNSC staff's assessment of the Canadian nuclear power industry's safety performance during the 2017 calendar year and provide details on the progress of certain regulatory issues and initiatives in 2018. It will also cover the assessment of the safety performance of both nuclear power plants (NPPs) and waste management facilities (WMFs) located at the nuclear power generating sites. For the WMFs, the assessment will cover both the 2016 and the 2017 calendar years.

Participant funding up to $35,000 is being offered for the provision of new, distinctive and valuable information, through informed and topic-specific written submissions to the Commission.

To apply for participant funding, interested parties must fill out and return the Participant Funding Application Form. Certain terms and conditions apply. Submit the application form by:

  • Email: pfp@cnsc-ccsn.gc.ca
    Mail: Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission

    P.O. Box 1046, Station B

The deadline to submit a participant funding application is June 29, 2018. Please note that late or incomplete funding applications will not be considered.

A funding review committee, independent of the CNSC, will consider all applications for funding and make recommendations on the allocation of funds.

The CNSC regulates the use of nuclear energy and materials to protect health, safety, security and the environment; to implement Canada's international commitments on the peaceful use of nuclear energy; and to disseminate objective scientific, technical and regulatory information to the public.
