Participant funding for the Regulatory Oversight Report for Canadian Nuclear Laboratories Sites: 2022 and the mid-term update for Canadian Nuclear Laboratories' Chalk River Laboratories site

This participant funding opportunity is open from March 16 to April 17, 2023.

Participant funding notice

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) is offering participant funding to assist Indigenous Nations and communities, members of the public and stakeholders in reviewing and in submitting comments in writing to the Commission on either or both of the following: CNSC staff’s Regulatory Oversight Report for Canadian Nuclear Laboratories Sites: 2022 (the ROR) and Canadian Nuclear Laboratories’ (CNL’s) mid-term update on the Chalk River Laboratories site. All intervenors may ask to make an oral presentation to the Commission. The facilities and activities covered by the ROR are located in the traditional and treaty territories of many Indigenous Nations and communities. The Chalk River Laboratories site is on the traditional unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishnaabeg peoples.

On November 1, 2023, the CNSC will hold a public meeting at which CNL will provide a mid‑term update on the Chalk River Laboratories site. Following that update, CNSC staff will present the ROR to the Commission. The ROR provides an overview of the CNSC’s regulatory efforts related to licensed CNL sites in 2022.

Up to $75,000 in participant funding will be disbursed among all eligible applicants for the provision of new, distinctive and valuable information through informed and topic-specific interventions to the Commission. Participant funding applications must clearly demonstrate how the proposed intervention will provide the Commission with information directly related to the 2022 ROR and/or the Chalk River Laboratories mid-term update.

To apply, please submit a participant funding application form. Certain terms and conditions apply. An application form can be submitted by:
