Proposed nuclear facility – SaskPower: Planning for nuclear power
SaskPower is in a multi-year planning phase to support the development of nuclear power from a proposed small modular reactor (SMR) by the mid-2030s and intends to make a commercial decision on whether to build the SMR by 2029 upon seeking the necessary regulatory approvals.
SaskPower is evaluating 2 study regions in Saskatchewan, specifically the Estevan and Elbow areas, for potential SMR sites. SaskPower has selected GE Hitachi’s BWRX-300 as a potential SMR design.
