Participate in an environmental assessment
The Commission relies on Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) staff to conduct consultation activities with the public during the environmental assessment (EA) process.
Public participation is an essential element of the EA process. The public can participate in many ways, including:
- Participating in a public Commission hearing about an EA
- Participating in some public Commission meetings
- Learning more about the CNSC’s Participant Funding Program which is available to eligible stakeholders, including members of the public and Aboriginal groups, to participate in the EA and licensing process
- Attending a consultation on:
- draft EA guidelines
- results of technical studies
- draft EA report
- Consulting ongoing EAs for notices of consultations and requesting public EA documents
- Sending your comments to cnsc.ea-ee.ccsn@canada.ca
- Asking to be placed on the mailing list for a specific EA
- Consulting the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry
- Checking your local newspaper or library bulletin boards for notices about local EA information sessions
Additional information on EA participation opportunities can be found in the draft REGDOC-2.9.1, Environmental Protection: Environmental Policy, Assessments And Protection Measures.
