This participant funding opportunity is open from April 22 to May 24, 2024.

Participant funding notice

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) is offering participant funding to assist Indigenous Nations and communities, members of the public and interested parties in reviewing CNSC staff’s Regulatory Oversight Report for Uranium and Nuclear Substance Processing Facilities, Research Reactors, and Class IB Accelerators in Canada: 2023 (the ROR) and in submitting comments in writing to the Commission. In addition, in the spirit of reconciliation and in recognition of the Indigenous oral tradition of sharing knowledge, the CNSC is offering Indigenous intervenors the opportunity to make oral presentations. The facilities covered by the ROR are located in the traditional and treaty territories of many Indigenous Nations and communities.

On December 11, 2024, the CNSC will hold a public meeting at which CNSC staff will present the ROR to the Commission. The ROR provides an overview of CNSC regulatory efforts related to the following CNSC-licensed facilities in Canada in 2023:

  • uranium processing facilities
  • nuclear substance processing facilities
  • research reactors
  • Class 1B accelerators

Up to $50,000 in participant funding will be disbursed among all eligible applicants for the provision of new, distinctive and valuable information through informed and topic-specific interventions to the Commission. Participant funding applications must clearly demonstrate how the proposed intervention will provide the Commission with information directly related to the ROR and/or the regulatory efforts related to the above CNSC licensed facilities in 2023. Such topics could include engagement activities with CNSC staff and licensees.
