Canada 150

Message from the President

Michael Binder, President and Chief Executive Officer

The year 2017 marks Canada's 150th anniversary of Confederation. Canadians will be celebrating this important milestone throughout 2017.

The main themes of the Government of Canada's vision for the 150th anniversary are:

  • diversity and inclusion
  • reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples
  • youth and the environment

The Canada 150 themes align well with the CNSC's safety mandate, multicultural fabric and outreach strategy.

At the CNSC, we have a diverse, creative, and expert workforce composed of students, visible minorities, and individuals of many ethnic and linguistic groups. All play an important role in achieving our strategic and operational objectives.

As part of our mandate, the CNSC reaches out to Canada's Indigenous Peoples and youth through our Outreach Program and Participant Funding Program, which provide them with information and opportunities to participate in our regulatory proceedings.

Since 2001, the CNSC has had the regulatory powers to protect the environment. This crucial responsibility is reflected in all the CNSC's licence agreements, and environmental protection is rigorously enforced by the CNSC's regulatory processes and actions.

The CNSC just celebrated 70 years of nuclear safety in 2016 and is proud to contribute to Canada's success story.

Happy Canada 150!
