The CNSC has issued an order to Mississauga Metals & Alloys Inc. (MMA), a metal recycling company located in Brantford, Ontario. MMA currently holds a CNSC licence to care for the radioactive waste at its facility associated with past metal decontamination and recycling activities.

This order was issued after CNSC staff conducted a compliance inspection and identified that the licensee was managing (ie. moving and consolidating) the radioactive waste, which is an activity that is not currently authorized under the licence. The order requires the licensee to cease managing the radioactive waste at its facility until the CNSC has accepted an updated radiation protection program, and MMA has demonstrated the qualifications necessary to implement the radiation protection program.

The CNSC requires these measures in order to protect the health and safety of workers, the public and the environment.
